The 27th CINEOKA is coming!

On Saturday, September 21st at 2pm we will have the 27th Cineoka at Gamboa do Jaguaribe! 🎞️🍃🏹

The CINEOKA project aims to disseminate and strengthen indigenous cultural diversity and different forms of (re)existence and coexistence, in addition to promoting environmental appreciation and awareness through artistic perspectives and counter-colonial dialogues.

This edition is packed with great attractions, check it out:

Documentary screening: Gargalo - The Origin of Being Gargalheiras | Dir. @thiagotoscanno

Synopsis: A documentary that, based on the elemental union of earth, water, fire and air, presents historical accounts and experimental performances by the artist from Acari, Thiago Toscanno. This narrative is enriched by the accounts of the residents of Vila de Gargalheiras, who share stories about the construction and resistance of one of the largest freshwater sources in the Seridó Potiguar.

Presentation of the Garganta de Ouro Group of Potiguara relatives from the Três Rios Village/PB.

The Garganta de Ouro Group emerged spontaneously during the coconut and ciranda parties that took place after the sacred Toré ceremonies. The group's meetings began at the beginning of the reconstruction of Aldeia Três Rios, located in Marcação, Paraíba, between 2002 and 2003. With more than 15 members, the team pays homage to Dona Maria do Porco (Maria de Lourdes da Silva), who leads it together with Bebê (Gecy Pereira da Cruz).

Launch of the book Nhembo'esaba Piára by Fábio de Oliveira @taangahara with dedication from the author. Book by @editoracja

About the book: This is a powerful reflection on indigenous resistance and recovery in Brazil. Through his experiences in different territories and his critical perspective on the ongoing process of colonization, the author invites us to navigate the waters of indigenous collectivity. Ta'angahara addresses issues such as education that ignores indigenous and Afro-Brazilian cultures, the failures of social policies, and the strength of festivities and cosmologies that keep the identity of native peoples alive.
