WHO WE ARE
Located in the North Zone of Natal, in the neighborhood of Redinha, the historic and ecological site Gamboa do Jaguaribe develops activities to preserve indigenous cultures and the environment. With hollow, trail, lake and reforested forest, the area is open for visitation and is included in the 8th Environmental Protection Zone of Natal, which corresponds to 3.1% of the city's territory.
The site began to be developed 15 years ago, when a cashew plantation was transformed into a reforestation area with native species from the Atlantic forest. At the beginning of 2016, the construction of the huts began, with the aim of keeping the history of the native peoples of the region alive and accessible to potiguares. More than 70 species of trees, such as brazilwood, gobiraba and mutamba, in addition to 15 varieties of mammals, such as raccoons, foxes and agouti.
The Gamboa region was also made up of inactive shrimp ponds, which over the years have given way to a lake and five hectares of mangrove, habitat for several species of fish and crustaceans.
Several activities are carried out in Gamboa do Jaguaribe, such as workshops for the construction of indigenous articles, such as shuttlecock and the musical instrument of war maraca, produced with wood and minerals. The study of the Tupi language and its variations, such as Tupi-Guarani, is also practiced.
